I’m Dr. Luke Lee, Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of the Pacific. I believe anyone can learn anything with a positive attitude and effort, plus good coaching. In the classroom I try to make engineering/science concepts a little easier to comprehend by breaking it down step-by-step and creating an active and engaging learning environment. I also post engineering tutorials on my YouTube channel (youtube.com/structurefree) to support the students I work with and beyond.

I arrived at the University of the Pacific in 2008 and can’t imagine a better learning community of students and faculty. My primary areas of teaching are structural design, engineering mechanics, structural analysis, and engineering risk analysis. I also make time for scholarship with an emphasis in FRP composite materials, infrastructure rehabilitation, and engineering education. I have co-authored two textbooks, one in civil engineering materials with McGraw Hill and another in earthquake engineering with CRC Press.

I have degrees in Civil/Structural Engineering from UCLA (BS), UC Berkeley (MS), and UC San Diego (PhD) where I conducted research on structural rehabilitation, damage detection, and durability characterization of FRP composites. In my spare time I’m a volunteer sports coach, baller, runner, and personal chauffer for my children.
